One of the “Hector McKenzie’s” of Waipu.
Her public work includes an extensive involvement in health, including three terms on the Hutt Valley District Health Board with seven years as Deputy Chair; Deputy Chair of the Midwifery Council for eight years and the Chair of their Professional Conduct Committee, membership of the ACC Purchasing Guidance Advisory Group and ACC’s Medical Misadventure Advisory Committee, of the WHO Code Compliance Panel, of four advisory groups to the National Screening Unit, of a NZ Guidelines Working Group, and of Pharmac’s Consumer Advisory Committee. Sharron was made a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order in 2007 for her meritorious services to health at a national level.
She has a particular interest in ethics, currently chairing the Families Commission and the Weltec Ethics Committees and co-chairing the ACC Research Ethics Committee. She is also a member of the Panel of Advisors to the Nathaniel Centre, the NZ Catholic Bioethics Centre. She is a past Chair of the Wellington Regional Health Authority Ethics Committee and was a member of the National Ethics Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology.
